Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are: physiological, safety, social needs, respect and self-actualization.
The five needs are the most basic, innate, constitute different levels or hierarchies, and become the forces that motivate and guide individual behavior.
The relationship between lower and higher needs: Maslow believed that the lower the level of need, the greater the power and the greater the potential. As the level of needs rises, the power of needs decreases accordingly. Before higher needs can emerge, lower needs must be met.
Before a person's higher level needs arise, lower level needs can be satisfied as long as they are partially satisfied. Example: To achieve an ideal, one sacrifices one's life regardless of physiological needs and safety needs.
Individuals differ in their pursuit of needs, with some having a need for self-esteem that exceeds the need for love and belonging.
So, how do we apply Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to our camp operations?
First, parse the requirement content.
Physiological needs: food, water, air, sleep, etc. They are the most important and powerful of all human needs.
Safety need: people need stability, security, protection, order, freedom from fear and anxiety, etc.
Belongingness and love need: a person requires an emotional connection or relationship with other people. Examples: making friends, pursuing love.
Esteem need: Maslow divided into two categories: (a) respect for oneself and (b) reputation or respect for others.
Cognitive needs : the need for knowledge and understanding, curiosity, exploration, meaning, and predictability.
Then, we compare the needs content and help the client to improve his needs level.
The infrastructure of the camp needs to meet the physical needs, the need for safety, and partially the need for belonging and love.
So, we need to provide food or facilities to cook food at the camp; drinking water; sleeping conditions; a safe place; and a place to communicate and interact.
After the bottom needs are met, the top needs are more reflective of the camp's value.
A good camp, the camp concept is generally the same as the high level needs.
